Nulaz in top 5 of the Challenger 50

For all it’s worth, we’ve made the third place of the Challenger 50. On a voting page where you could pitch your company, we got more than 40k votes. Even though it’s a bit of a strange event, with no goals other than getting yourself into the Challenger Day, and the possibility of winning a trip to NY, we are happy to have gotten that much support. Thanks to all of those who voted!

Nulaz in the Finals of the European Venture contest

Yesterday in Eindoven, we have been selected out of 32 startup companies to present Nulaz in the finals of the European Venture Contest. So we’ll be going to Barcelona 17th and 18th to compete against 20 other companies to win this challenge.

Nulaz 0.24: CellID, Avatars, and much more…

As some of our users that ran the 0.23 version might have noticed, we have done an update (and firstly used our update method). There is a reason why some devices have had the 0.24 version already a month ago, and why some only got a new version about a week ago, and why BlackBerry users still haven’t got it. It has to do with our testphones getting stolen and replacing them took some time.

.

OK, so what’s in it?

  • It’s faster. It doesn’t block the interface on network traffic anymore, which is most noticeable on startup.
  • It’s got profile pictures for people and places (only uploadable via web or mobile web, still).
  • It’s got improved GPS placing on the map, and Cell ID localisation for those devices that support CellID from Java (Sony Ericsson and Blackberry)
  • It’s got improved battery life and data usage. Because we make more efficient use of internet connections and GPS updates, we have improved the battery drainage and data traffic (for those of you who still not have a flat fee, you fools).
  • It’s got a lot of other fine tuning under the hood that would bore the hell out of all of you reading this, so drop by for a beer on Friday afternoons and talk to any one of our developers to hear all about it.

Nulaz Finallist of the Teleatlas Developer Competition

Together with two other companies we have been selected for the finals of the Teleatlas LBS - Out the Box EMEA Developer Competition. We are thankful to Teleatlas for giving us the support and we are going to put all our effort into getting a maximum result in the finals. We will hear the result mid January, so we keep y’all posted.

Where will I go? - Share your trips and get together

As some of you might have noticed, you can now share your destinations. With Nulaz you can see where your friends are, where they have been, and where they are going to. This will make it easier to align yourself with the people you would like to meet.
.
You can use the simple mode to share your trip in three clicks, or you can use the full mode to carefully plan out your holiday. Maybe your friends will be in the same area.

When you browse locations, you see which people will go to a certain places. This way, we link people to places, and vice versa. When you can see where your friends are going, you can share a ride, or meetup for a coffee.

Thanks JR Online

This morning we got a cake from JR Online, our hosting provider for winning Vodafone Mobile Clicks. Thanks guys!

Mobile Website Live

We have just put our first version of the mobile website live. If you go to www.nulaz.net with your mobile browser, you will get it. We are still optimizing, bug fixing, and a lot of basic Nulaz functionality needs to be added, but this is at least something for those of you out there that are either too scared, lazy, or technophobic to install a mobile application or for those of you out there that happened to buy such a shitty phone that is not supported by our mobile application (if you are in this category, just buy a new phone). Please give us feedback and comments on how we can improve.

Nulaz wins Vodafone Mobile Clicks!

Yesterday, we have won the Vodafone Mobile Clicks competition and we received a prize of 60.000 euro from the hands of Guy Laurence (CEO Vodafone NL) and Harry Odenhoven (Director Online Services). We will invest this money in improving our service. Second and third places went to Tipspot and MapTheGap. We thank the organizers (Yuri, SPRX Mobile) and all the positive feedback we’ve gotten so far.

You can read about it on Emerce, Picnic website, Dutch Cowboys, Twitter, Marketing Facts, and Bright. See pictures of the event on c360.nl.
